Pastel & Metallic Polka Dots

I’ve really been loving pastel nail colours recently, especially when paired with a touch of metallic! I think it’s a really fun way to break up lighter shades and add some depth to your look.

Polka dots are a super easy way to add metallic to your muted base. Make Up Gallery have this stylish dotting tool set to make getting the look super easy!

First up I wanted a really light nail so I picked Pink Sherbet as the base with Vintage Pink dots.

Next is a slightly darker pastel look using Bambino Blue and Sapphire Blue.

 

For both of these I tried to keep my dots evenly spaced and in lines, as much as possible, but a more random dot placement is just as pretty and can be less time consuming.

I’ve kept my colour palette simple using only Sunshine Yellow and Midnight Black with the high gloss top coat.

Leopard print is my go to, easy nail art. It’s simple but very striking, especially in these colours! I got this look using the tiny dotting tool.

 

I wanted to use more than one brush for the next design, and using only black and yellow I naturally thought of cute bumble bees!

 

For this bright summer mani I used the small dotting tool to create the dotty lines, the small orange brush to draw the bees and the striping brush for the lined nail.

Make Up Gallery: Mermaid Nails!

Is there anything better than mermaid inspired nails for summer? Nope, I don’t think so either!

Today I am showing you how to get this gorgeous sparkly look using Make Up Gallery polishes.

From left to right: Top &Base Coat, Bambino Blue, Mint Milkshake, Teal Tinsel

Start by applying two coats of colour, allow each coat to dry before adding the next. I’ve alternated between the two colours.

Next I used the dry brush technique to add depth. Use the opposite colour to the base and simply wipe most of the polish off the brush and sweep randomly over the nail.

Add glitter to the tips of the nails. Alternatively you could add it at the top of the nail or all over if you prefer extra sparkle.

Seal the design with top coat. I really love the glossy finish of this one!

Summer Ready Nails With Make Up Gallery

Summer is here, not that you would know it with the very British weather we’ve been having, but I still love picking out warmer nail colours in the hope it will encourage the sunshine. Today I have three of the best shades to share from Make Up Gallery!

Each of these will look beautiful paired with a tan or your natural skin tone and are definitely my top colours for summer ready nails.

I adore coral, especially at this time of year. Coral Craze is perfect! I love the subtle colour, it’s not quite pastel but it’s not too bright either. So if you’re a little nervous of colour then this is a great place to start.

 

Metallics are all over this season so you definitely need them on your nails too! Copper Kiss is a gorgeous shimmering bronze that will accentuate your tan to perfection!

 

If you love pink then the creamy Candy Pink is just what you need. Brighten up any look with this pretty pop of colour.

 

I know I’ll be getting lots of wear out of these in the next few months and at just £1 each it’s great value if you do want to try something a bit out of your comfort zone.

Make Up Gallery: Nail Polish Review

I’m a firm believer that you don’t have to spend a huge amount to get the best beauty products. Make Up Gallery, Poundland’s makeup brand, is definitely proof of that!

I’ve been using Make Up Gallery polishes for a while, you may have seen them over on my instagram page, and today I have my first review!

Time To Shine Quick Dry Nail Polish in Latte.

The wide flat brush made applying this really smooth and simple! Being able to cover most of the nail in one swipe will allow those of you who find clean application difficult better control over the polish.

Just one coat gives great coverage but I would always recommend two just to make sure there are no brush lines or natural nail peeking through. The drying time is very impressive! Within only a few minutes the polish is fully dry, which is much better than some of the more expensive brands in my collection!

I usually only wear a top coat to seal nail art designs or if a polish looks a little dull. Luckily Make Up Gallery polishes dry to a lovely glossy finish. This lasted two days completely chip free and only showed signs of wear along the tips on day three. Very impressive results! I usually change my polish every couple of days so it’s great to know that this will stay looking fresh for the whole time I would wear it.

I love the simplicity and sophistication of this nail colour. It’s very stylish and perfect for everyday, work wear and as a base for nail art!

Daisy Nail Art: Step-by-Step Guide

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a step-by-step nail art but I thought it would be fun to start doing more of them!

I love a floral nail especially when it’s as easy to do as this one!

Step 1: After applying your base coat add two layers of your chosen colour. I’ve gone for a lovely pastel green. Barry M Quick Dry polish in Road Rage.

Step 2: Cover your nails with leaves. I used a small nail art brush but any small makeup brush you have or a dotting tool/hair grip would work just as well. Remember this doesn’t need to be perfectly neat.

Step 3: Now start adding flowers randomly over the leaves. I used my nail art brush but if you prefer more perfectly shaped petals a dotting tool would be a better idea. Start with the white section and finish with a dot in the middle.

Step 4: Seal your design with a top coat. Matte or glossy this is very pretty!

You can always change up the colours of this look for a manicure to match your outfit or mood!

Freehand nail art is one of my favourite ways of creating fun designs. I love that you can be creative and come up with so many unique looks. But sometimes working on such a small surface can be frustrating so I love finding things to help control the polish and to make all kinds of shapes and patterns. Born Pretty Store has a good selection of tools to help and today I am sharing one of the best!

This 6 piece dotting tool is not only useful but it is also super pretty! There are 5 dotting heads in various sizes and a ‘fountain pen’ tool which I was so excited to try! The top unscrews so you can store the extra parts inside the brushed metal case. Perfect for travelling and easy storage!

I was so excited about the pen shape tool that I just had to try it out as soon as it arrived! I decided to do a fun watermelon design on my ring finger.

 

I love this summery art and I am very impressed by how the pen let me create much smaller detail. I know that is definitely going to come in handy in future designs!

I also wanted to try out a few of the dotting heads in one design so what could be better than a colourful polka dot look!

Born Pretty Store: Palm Tree Decals

With the weather being much warmer recently I’ve been playing around with nail designs that are more summer and holiday themed. Born Pretty Store have great decals to help jazz up your nails and this set is just perfect!

There’s a nice mix of feathers and palm trees to get creative with!

As soon as these arrived I knew I wanted to try a super bright gradient to contrast with the tree silhouette.

 

I love how warm and eye catching this is! As you can see on my first nail, you have to be careful adding top coat as brushing over it too much can pull some of the design off.

My second look I wanted to keep simple. I went with a pastel polka dot base and then added a single feather on my ring finger.

 

These decals are definitely cute and perfect for the summer! They are good quality and look really lovely on all nail lengths. I like that these are all simple black images as it means they will look amazing over so many colours!

Born Pretty Store: Fimo Canes

Fimo canes are perfect for adding dimension to your nail art. They come in lots of wonderful designs and it’s a great way to be sure that each image is exactly the same.

Born Pretty Store has gorgeous fimo canes!

You get 10 canes in a pack and the designs you get are completely random so you will hopefully get a nice mix. As you can see, I got some lovely ones!

I read a few reviews about how best to cut these and although a lot of people said a sharp kitchen knife would work, I found that was definitely not the case! I couldn’t get thin slices with a kitchen knife but a craft knife worked perfectly!

Once I had cut a pot full of fimo pieces I got creative and came up with two pretty looks!

This first one is a simple summer mani! I decided to keep things bright and went with a bold orange polish. I then added white blocks on two nails with some little polka dots. After adding a top coat I carefully placed on my flowers to neaten up the edge of the white section.

 

For my second design I’ve gone for all purple! Once I’d added two coats of colour to each nail I painted thin stripes with a nail art brush. I then used the cute purple cat pieces!
